About Steve Kestrel
Steve Kestrel grew up in southern New Mexico where he and his family raised and trained quarter horses. Kestrel now resides with his wife, Cindi, on a 43-acre "wildlife preserve" in Colorado's Redstone Canyon.
Steve won the Prix de West Purchase Award in 2013 at the Prix de West Invitational, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the Gold Medal Sculpture at the West Select show at the Phoenix Art Museum in 2011, 2012 & 2013, the Museum Purchase Award at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, San Antonio, Texas, in 2013, the People's Choice Award at the Visions West Show at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in 2007, the Red Smith Award in 2008, the Best of Show (2005 and 2008) and Featured Artist at the Coors Western Art Show in Denver, Colorado.
Kestrel's work is in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the National Museum of Wildlife Art (15 works), Denver Art Museum, Gilcrease Museum, Buffalo Bill Center of the West, Eiteljorg Museum, Witchita Art Museum, Woodson Art Museum, Brookgreen Gardens, Leanin' Tree Museum, Briscoe Western Art Museum and Booth Western Art Museum. He has been featured in articles in the magazines Fine Art Connoisseur and Southwest Art.
He is a member of the Society of Animal Artists.
